Seminar: Facilitating Curricular Reform through Strengthening Curriculum Development and Writing Skills of Teachers

As a part of the two year project coordinated by the Slovak NGO Orava Association for Democracy in Education this seminar was held from 20 - 24 November, 2005 in High Tatras, Slovakia.

Twenty-five educators from Albania, Czech Republic, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Russia and Slovakia, who will serve, upon completion of this project, as first-generation in-country trainers, participated at the training focused on gaining skills needed for writing and developing curriculum. The seminar was held by former co-directors of the Orava and RWCT projects Jeannie Steele and Kurt Meredith from University of Northern Iowa and by George Hunt, former RWCT volunteer from University in Edinburgh.

The project aims at supporting curricular reforms in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe through building the capacity of a core group of educators from the involved countries. This core group of professionals will continue to cooperate to exchange experience and will be involved in developing a program that will be offered to further educators in their countries and to other countries upon completion of this project as a model of effective training program focusing on supporting skills of schools and teachers to develop curricula corresponding to the needs of individual learners and their communities.

This project is funded by the OPEN SOCIETY INSTITUTE WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE EDUCATION SUPPORT PROGRAM
